The Veterinary Council of India (VCI) is a statutory body which regulates veterinary practice in India, the council is governed by the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984.

The following subjects list & its credits are according to VCI Regulations,2016 latest. Before knowing the subjects you have to know about Credit. It means the weekly unit of work recognized for any particular subject. A lecture class of one hour per week shall be counted as one credit whereas a practical class of two hours duration and a working period of the three hours in the veterinary clinical complex and livestock farm complex per week count as one credit

In simple words students have to take some theory classes and some practical classes per week of each subject by the University. Example In Anatomy students have to take 4 Theory classes and 3 Practical classes per week and each class are called Credits. As per VCI rule 81 credits are the minimum requirement for a programme of leading to B.V.Sc. & A.H. Degree.

Professional Year wise Distribution of Subjects with credits : 

1) 1st Professional Year - 

  • Veterinary Anatomy : 4+3=7
  • Veterinary Physiology : 4+1=5 
  • Livestock Production Management : 4+2=6                              

Total : 12+6=18 

2) 2nd Professional Year - 

  • Veterinary Microbiology : 3+2=5 
  • Veterinary Pathology : 4+2=6
  • Veterinary Biochemistry : 2+1=3
  • Animal Genetics and Breeding : 3+1=4
  • Animal Nutrition : 3+1=4 

Total : 15+7=22

3) 3rd Professional Year - 

  • Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology : 4+1=5
  • Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology : 3+1=4
  • Veterinary Parasitology : 3+2=5
  • Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education : 3+1=4
  • Livestock Product Technology : 2+1=3
  • Veterinary Clinical Practices-1 : 0+1=1
  • Livestock Farm Practices : 0+2=2
Total : 15+9=24

4) 4th Professional Year -

  • Veterinary Surgery and Radiology : 2+1=3
  • Veterinary Medicine : 4+1=5
  • Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics : 2+1=3
  • Veterinary Clinical Practices-2 : 0+6=6
Total : 8+9=17

*12+15+15+8=50 Theory Credits & 6+7+9+9=31 Practical Credits. That means Total: 50+31=81 Credits running per week by Authority in B.V.Sc. & A.H. Programme.
