Different Biological Parameters of some Animals

Biological Parameters of some Animals PDF

For Veterinarians, memorizing these species-specific Biological Parameters is the first step in developing the "clinical intuition" required to spot distress before it becomes a crisis. These parameters are not just numbers to be memorized; they are the tools of the trade.

Parameters such as rectal temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and some other vary wildly across species.

  • A heart rate of 40 bpm is perfectly normal for a horse, but it would signal life-threatening bradycardia in a dog.
  • A temperature of 101.5°F (38.6°C) is standard for a cat, but might indicate a mild fever in other contexts.
