Non Parametric Tests
Description:
We use non-parametric tests when we do not expect our data to
conform to a parametric distribution such as the normal distribution or
the t distribution. They can also be used if other assumptions about the
data needed for certain tests are violated. Eg. Equality of standard
deviations for the two-sample t test.
The Sign Test is the simplest nonparametric test for matched or paired
data. The approach is to analyze only the signs of the difference scores
Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test is a popular nonparametric test for matched or paired data. Like the
Sign Test, it is based on difference scores, but in addition to analyzing
the signs of the differences, it also takes into account the magnitude of
the observed differences.
